The British Turkish Society was founded in 2004 as bridge between the two communities. Their aims is to establish long lasting connections between the British and Turkish cultures. Despite the fact that a well developed country such as the UK and a country like Turkey, which is trying to make it into the 21st century without forgetting its culturel backgrounds, may seem to have very little in common, it is true that the co-existence of these cultures do enrich one another Moreover, the increasing number of British people living in Turkey and the numbers of Turkish people living in Britain, as well as the number of intercultural and interfaith movements existing in both countries, cannot be ignored. There fore, they believe that the intellectual and modern west should meet whit the poignant east on the grounds that they should connect in a global world for the peace of humanity.

Their strong team all have professional jobs and live in either county and hold either or both countries citizenships, thus they know and understand the needs of individuals who live far away from their motherland. They provide a voluntary service and have strong connections whit many charities and societies, as well as having culturel, religious and governmental establishments in both countries.

You can contact them if you have come across any problems regarding cultural or religious issues either country. They will be happy to help. Please bear that you would be able to find the information you are looking for on their webpage and can be informed about their activities by visiting this site frequently. If you are British and living in Turkey you will be able to find information about legal status and culturel and religious issues by contacting either one of their offices. If you are living in the UK and want to learn about Turkey, the Turkish language, ora re considering moving to Turkey, you can also contact the office or representative closest to you. They stress that they will try to help you every step of the way.

Their aims in brief:

To establish a bridge between the two countries. Bring help regarding issues affecting all aspects of living in both countries: culturally, linguistically (setting up of Turkish language courses, Sufism courses etc.) Organising intercultural events and programmes in both countries.

Newly-opened Turkish course in Leeds receives an encouraging response…

“We have been well aware of the increasing demand for Turkish courses in Yorkshire.” says a Turkish tutor at Oxford Vision Turkish courses started by British-Turkish Society and Yorkshire Educational Society in Leeds in May 2005.

The rising popularity of Turkey as one of the top destinations of English people creates a demand for an institute that could teach the language of this country. It’s believed that more than 10,000 English people are currently living on the Southern coast of Turkey and many more people are making plans to move to Turkey. Not only its wonderful climate and but also its culture which embodies the riches of many ancient civilizations enormously appeal to Westerners in search of new places and cultures.

Oxford Vision says that the classes are formed by people of different backgrounds, most of whom have different aims for learning the language.

Oxford Vision understands that this course will contribute to a better understanding of Turkey and; furthermore, promote relations between the people of these two countries.

Besides the language course, Oxford Vision is offering a trip to Turkey, most of whose expenses will be covered by British-Turkish Society. The only thing that visitors are going to pay for will be the airfares. All the accommodation, food, and within-Turkey transport expenses will be covered by British-Turkish Society.

If you are interested in learning Turkish or joining the trip, you can contact Oxford Vision Turkish courses on 0113 245 1774 or 07782506221. Alternatively, you can send e-mail at turkish@oxfordvision.com
